DESCRIPTION

This report explores the competitive landscape in the specialty coffee market, including how roasters are positioned with respect to their pricing, single origin offerings, and other factors.  Additionally, we review and add data from your roastery so 1) you can see your precise positioning on select charts, 2) benefit from customized insights, and 3) receive marketing analysis specifically for your domain.

Unlike other industry surveys and reports, we use data ONLY from small, independent roasters for our analysis.

As competition increases in specialty coffee, and consumers have more options to choose from, finding ways to stand out as a roaster is increasingly critical.  Beyond quality (which in most cases is very high) how else can a roaster differentiate itself? Whether it is the certifications a coffee possesses, the adventurousness of a single origin lineup, a roaster’s commitment to sustainability-related causes, or something else, a roaster must take a clear-eyed look at where they stand in relation to their competition.

Using our proprietary database of small roasters and single origin coffees, this report looks at the following areas:

  • What origins roasters are sourcing
  • What processing methods are prevalent
  • How roasted coffee is priced on average, by origin
  • What agricultural or environmental certifications are gaining momentum
  • Your positioning as it relates to average pricing and number/variety of single origins in your lineup
  • Marketing analytics specific to your domain, including traffic statistics and site authority.

Questions this report can help answer:

  • Am I priced competitively, given my origin lineup?
  • Are the single origins I sell unique, or is everyone else offering more or less the same thing?
  • Compared to roasters across the US, am I offering more single origins, or fewer?
  • What origins are gaining in prominence quarter-over-quarter?
  • Who is my domain competing with for organic search traffic?
